Moments

January is a huge anti climax for many, but the upcoming Jamie Webster‘s album ‘Moments’ due for release January 28th 2022 through Modern Sky is the perfect antidote for that.

Following on from the debut album ‘We Get By’ which landed a top ten spot, ‘Moments’ is destined for similar if not higher successes due to Jamie Webster‘s passion and extreme honesty throughout the album.

Webster has returned with  Lightning Seeds band members who feature on the new album Jim Sharrock ( drums ) Tim Cunnigham ( Bass) Danny Murphy ( Guitar )

Recorded in the iconic Welsh Rockfield studios, Webster explains this album follows from his previous album, that portrays his left wing stance with a few digs throughout the album in regards to how the pandemic was dealt with.

Single releases off the album have already hit the charts, the single ‘Davey Kane’ draws attention to the prison and justice system in the UK. A Spaghetti Western riff sets the scene for the story of Davey Kane, liverpudlian Webster is able to use his popularity and be a voice for the masses, he addresses social issues that are a taboo subject for many. The passion delivered in this track provides empathy but at the same time delivers an uppercut to right wing views.

The real harsh subjects are carried along with an extremely contrasting high tempo and sing along folk-like melodies. Webster states, “My music is very political and stands with the left, it stands with the socialist.

When someone channels their passion into something postive it is clear to see and hear, as this album will demonstrate to its listeners and although the album deals with the darker issues of society, Webster provides an upbeat view on life’s such the title track ‘Moments’ that speaks of how ignited life is if you don’t switch off from it.

‘Days Unknown’ deals with the struggles of real life and spending money on rent when no-one knows what lies ahead. A smooth sounding riffs leads to a larger upbeat ending that gives a sound to unity and postive feel that has the sing along la la la that will no doubt be sung back to Webster when sung live.

Whilst the track ‘Knocking at the Door’ is going to be a massive hit and my personal favoroute off the album. It delivers an instant softness to it that has echos of Fleetwood Mac and a repetitive loop that is so catchy you will find yourself playing it on repeat.

Webster delivers a slower pace on a couple of songs throughout the album such as the track ‘Something in the Air’ which is a soft sounding ballad telling the story of someone’s love towards their partner, that is able to show them life with a lighter view, the warmth in his voice, and chuckle when he sings of each of others flaws gives an air of vulnerability of how much that someone means to them.

Webster’s ‘North End Kid’ begins as a song with a simple acoustic delivery, then bang it hits you with a much larger upbeat sound with the support from keyboards and strings. The single ‘Going Out’ moulds two short stories of Paul and Annabella.

Webster is able to use his working class lens and people watching skills to share to listeners in the form of music.

The jolliness in webster’s delivery seem to soften a harsh blow such as the track ‘What’s Wrong’ is such a fast paced jolly tune that the lyrics that speak of being badly led by those we are meant to trust and an uncertain future are transported to your ears in the most delicate way.

‘PLAY YOUR FUCKIN GUITAR, DANNY LAD’ on the rock and roll sounding track ‘What More’ is another snippet of the raw authentic Jamie Webster that fans know and love, whilst dealing with the subject of the pandemic and digs towards of how the situation has been dealt with.

The second album after a first is always a challenge but in this case it’s definitely a very good starter leaving your mouth watering for the main dish! Which doesn’t disappoint… Now, what’s for pudding?
