Matilda Shakes make their massive return with new single ‘Transmission‘.

Not all songs are created equal, some take a few listens to get stuck in your head, others you know from the outset aren’t for you and some punch you in the face within the first 10 seconds and hook you till the last note, thankfully for Matilda Shakes, ‘Transmission‘ does the latter and beautifully so.

The Sheffield rockers sit firmly between heavy-guitar modern indie, with a gorgeous dose of old-school rock ‘n’ roll swagger and ‘Transmission‘ mixes the two perfectly.

‘Transmission‘ is the first single from the lads’ newly announced EP titled ‘The Limit‘ which is due out in February 2027. It’s a self-confessed new chapter for the band and it certainly seems to be a very loud and an unapologetic chapter, which can never be a bad thing.

What a time to be starting a new chapter, 2026 has already seen the lads take a packed-out Leadmill stage at Tramlines by storm, perform during the Silverstone F1 weekend and pick up plays on Radio 1. They’re clearly buzzing to finally get this new material out there.

If this is what the next chapter looks like, it’s safe to say they’ve got plenty to shout about, the song starts with a punch and it doesn’t stop, building into aggressive guitars and whirling vocals, you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve been trapped in a world of chaos, where the main language is limitless energy and an undeniable need for excessiveness.

Somehow, whilst you’re listening, it already feels like you’re stood in the middle of a packed-out gig, watching it unfold in front of you, you can almost feel the crowd, the sweat, the noise and that absolute mayhem that comes with a proper Matilda Shakes live show.

“We’re the noise, the new religion!” gets yelled out more than once and yeah… sign me up to that congregation because I’m sold!

That’s probably the biggest thing ‘Transmission‘ gets right, it’s chaotic, it’s loud, it’s excessive but somehow it all comes together without ever feeling like too much. There’s a confidence running through the whole thing that says they’re not here to play it safe and honestly, why the hell would they?

There’s no tiptoeing around the edges here, no gentle introduction to this new era, Matilda Shakes have kicked the door down, turned the amps up and basically announced, “This is us now.” and I’m very much here for it.

The band head out on a UK tour this autumn, including a major headline show at Sheffield’s The Foundry on October 3rd.

We’ll be catching the lads at Atlas in Cleethorpes the week before, Saturday 26th September and you should definitely get yourselves to the seaside too!
