Single Review: Parades – Just For The Day
JUST FOR THE DAY
Australian four-piece Parades are starting to gather some proper momentum and their latest single ‘Just For The Day‘ shows exactly why. Following earlier cuts ‘Desire‘ and ‘Dancers‘, the Sydney outfit return with a track that leans into atmosphere without losing the bite that sits at the heart of their sound.
Built around a brooding rhythm section and shimmering layers of guitar, ‘Just For The Day‘ slowly pulls you in rather than hitting you over the head straight away. There’s a reflective edge running through it too, the sort of track that feels like it’s been written during one of those rare quiet moments when everything briefly makes sense before the chaos of everyday life kicks back in.
What stands out is the restraint, instead of throwing everything at the track, Parades allow the song to breathe, letting subtle shifts in tone and texture do the heavy lifting, it gives the single a sense of space that suits the mood perfectly with the band gradually building the track into something quietly powerful.
Despite that reflective core, the band’s post-punk backbone is still firmly intact, the bassline carries a gritty pulse underneath it all, while the drums push things forward just enough to keep the momentum ticking over. It’s that balance between mood and movement that makes the track land.
The band have already started turning heads back home with ‘Just For The Day‘ picking up radio play and helping introduce Parades to a wider audience. They’ve also wasted no time taking the song out on the road, bringing it to life at recent shows in Sydney and Melbourne where their reputation for intense live performances continues to grow.
For a band still early in their journey, ‘Just For The Day‘ feels like another confident step forward. Parades are clearly still shaping their identity but if these first few singles are anything to go by, they’re building something worth keeping an eye on.
