Single Review: Corella- Rewire
REWIRE
Manchester indie outfit Corella are back with new single ‘Rewire‘ and it sounds like a band ready to kick things up a gear.
After the bright indie bounce of their debut album ‘Once Upon A Weekend‘, this one lands with a bit more grit. The guitars bite harder, the rhythm section drives it forward and the whole thing carries that proper indie-rock urgency that feels tailor-made for a packed tent at a summer festival.
Frontman Joel Smith, who hails from Grimsby, leads it from the front with a vocal that’s full of bite, and lyrically the band are aiming a bit higher here too. ‘Rewire‘ taps into the modern world of influence, misinformation and how quickly people can be pushed into believing whatever’s put in front of them.
Talking about the song, Smith explained it came from noticing just how easily opinions can be shaped. The whole idea behind the track is that people can be rewired into thinking a certain way and that maybe it’s time we all started questioning what we’re being fed a bit more.
Behind the desk is producer Jason Perry, whose work with Don Broco has a habit of bringing a heavier punch and you can hear that here. The sound is bigger, sharper and built for the live stage.
With the band currently out supporting Kaiser Chiefs, ‘Rewire‘ feels like the perfect tune to introduce the next phase of Corella. It’s bold, it’s loud and grabs you by the throat.
If this is the first glimpse of what’s coming next from Corella, it suggests the lads aren’t just sticking to the same formula, they’re turning the dial up and giving it a proper shake.
If ‘Rewire‘ is anything to go by, this next chapter could be their most exciting yet.
