Single Review: EVER x Keyawna Nikole – Outta My Head
OUTTA MY HEAD
EVER have never been a band content with standing still and ‘Outta My Head‘ sees the Cleethorpes outfit take another confident step forward. Teaming up with Los Angeles artist Keyawna Nikole, the collaboration lands as a genuinely natural pairing that plays to both artists’ strengths.
Built around towering alt-rock guitars, punchy production and a chorus that refuses to leave your head, ‘Outta My Head‘ channels the emotional chaos that comes with break-ups, distance and relationships hanging by a thread. There’s an urgency running through every second, giving the track the sort of intensity that modern rock fans will instantly latch onto.
One of the biggest strengths is the chemistry between EVER and Keyawna Nikole, the track was recorded after a whirlwind 24-hour writing session in Los Angeles but there’s nothing forced about this collaboration. Keyawna‘s powerful vocal performance adds another dimension to EVER‘s already explosive sound, creating a track that feels equally at home on alternative rock playlists as it does alongside the heavier end of modern pop.
That polished edge is hardly surprising either, with legendary producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance) behind the desk. The production is huge without becoming overblown, allowing the emotion to remain front and centre while the guitars hit with real weight.
EVER have been building serious momentum over the last couple of years, earning over a million streams, appearing on the EA Sports NHL soundtrack and taking to festival stages including 2000trees and Liverpool Sound City. ‘Outta My Head‘ feels like another statement of intent from a band refusing to put a ceiling on their ambitions.
For Keyawna Nikole, it’s another reminder of her versatility, while for EVER it’s proof that they’re more than capable of taking their sound onto an international stage. If this is a taste of what’s still to come in the next chapter for the band, there’s every reason to be excited.
