Death of Me

Next Friday will see The Sherlocks celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first ever release by playing a special 7500-capacity homecoming show at Sheffield’s Don Valley Bowl. Building towards what will surely be an unforgettable occasion for the band and their fans alike, The Sherlocks today share the brand new single ‘Death of Me’.

‘Death of Me’ is a twist on The Sherlocks’ sound, their flair for anthemic larger-than-life hooks, feelgood vibes and energetic escapism now leaning into synth-rock territory without losing any of their dynamic spark. Lyrically it’s perfectly circular for this moment in time – their first demo release in 2014 celebrated the rush of being able to ‘Live For The Moment’ and that idea is explored again here, albeit from the perspective of adult life rather than the naivety of youth. The track was produced by David Radahd-Jones.

Vocalist/guitarist Kiaran Crook says,

This feels like the freshest thing we’ve done in a while in the sense that we know we can write and record rock ‘n’ roll tunes no problem, and don’t get me wrong we love doing that! But this song came about and immediately felt different, almost like it wasn’t crying out for guitars quite as much. We gave the song a minimalistic approach in many ways and I think it ended up sounding like nothing we’ve done before because of that.

Drummer Brandon Crook adds,

This song is a pure sing-a-long anthem, made for the big outdoor gigs and festivals. We feel like we’ve taken another huge leap forward sonically. The whole tune feels youthful and uplifting. Can’t wait to play this one live for everyone!

The Sherlocks are set to play the biggest headline show of their career so far at the Don Valley Bowl in Sheffield on June 7th, 2024. The 7500-capacity gig will see the band and their fans come together to celebrate everything they have achieved. Not only is a relative homecoming, the venue being just a few miles south of where the Crook brothers, Kiaran (vocals/guitar) and Brandon (drums), were raised in Bolton upon Dearne, but it also coincides with the 10th anniversary of their first release, the early demo of ‘Live For The Moment’.

Kiaran says,

We can’t wait! It’s something that’s needed to happen for a while now and next year is the perfect time. We’ve got four albums under our belt now and the fans have taken this journey to the next level for us. It’s only right we repay them with a proper day out and a memorable gig that will go down in our own history.

Joining The Sherlocks is a mega grassroots line up, each band having their own big fanbases and on the cusp of something special themselves. Red Rum Club, The Clause, Apollo Junction and The Lilacs makes for an incredible line up and for such a small ticket price too, this is definitely a gig for the people!
