E.P Review: Asleep People – ‘Common Touch’ & ‘Ghost Stories’

Common Touch & Ghost Stories

Shifting away from their moody, bassline-heavy debut EP, Asleep People return with a radio-friendly indie sleaze throwback.

Moulding the cheek of The Ordinary Boys and the harmonies of The Rifles, together with Carl Barat-infused guitar riffs, Asleep People could be your next favourite band.

Beginning with singer Miles McCollum nonchalantly declaring, “We’re Asleep People“, lead single Common Touch is an instant-classic toe-thumping singalong. Centering on tales of being trapped in a conversation you’d rather not have to listen to, the song is easily relatable to anyone who has spent an evening in the local boozer having their ear chewed off.

The urgent ‘Ghost Stories’ packs a punch with its upbeat tempo and typical indie landfill witticism of a drunken late night romance. Memorable one-liners like “I spy with my little eye“, “she’s got eyes like an Alsatian” and “for the interest I am flattered, but it’s just because we’re battered“, you’re guaranteed to have the song stuck in your head for days.

Asleep People’s EP ‘Common Touch + Ghost Stories’ is out now.
