Wake Me Up

In little over a year Healer are already pushing their way to be one of the most remembered bands that Grimsby have produced. ‘Wake Me Up‘ is the latest track to be released and amazingly, it’s already the 7th single from Healer and with each release the band are just going from strength to strength.

Despite Grimsby being a run down and end of the line town, it has also produced some amazing bands, maybe that’s due to resilience and wanting to escape… Well, that and it does actually have a slight charm that keeps people around too.

With the opening of Docks Academy there seems to be a musically resurgence in the Town and Healer are leading the way with that charge at the minute.

Wake Me Up‘ radiates an 80’s vibe, it gives me a slight ‘I Ran (So Far Away)‘ by A Flock of Seagulls feel, the kind of infectious track that you would come across on GTA. I guess all their tunes have a cinematic quality and could easily feature during pivotal moments on the big screen. That’s what Healer do so well, they actually tap into your emotions and make you feel the tune rather than just listening to it. The band descibe the track as an anthemic middle finger to the 9-5, a siren song for dreamers chained to their desk.

Talking about ‘Wake Me Up’ Healer said,

‘Wake Me Up’ is a song about growing up, it’s about realising how much time you have wasted and hoping it’s not too late to stop the free spirit lifestyle an finally Wake up. It also references the noise of the Internet, visual media and how life can become one big blur and we sometimes need to wake up and smell the roses.

Although it’s now been over a year and seven singles released, this feels like Healer are only just warming up. Their ‘Wake Me Up‘ launch gig at Wilton Fields proves that Healer are already becoming bigger than most the venues can handle in the Town. After selling Spiders Web out in record time they had to upgrade the venue due to demand but once again even with a bigger venue they sold out again.

If you listen to the whole release of songs together, it feels like a band who have who have been around for years and are so comfortable in themselves. You could be mistaken for thinking around third album era for a band when they start setting their sights on the huge stages and with these already in their catalogue there’s no reason why Healer shouldn’t be on those big stages.

It’s becoming a very exciting time for a very exciting band.
