Live Review: Bilk – Omeara, London

~ 05/11/2019 ~

Never mind the half-full Omeara in London, here comes the angsty teenage band you’ve been waiting for.

Imagine if The Jam were born 40 years later and formed after hearing Jamie T then you’re probably somewhere close to BILK. The Chelmsford 3-piece have been making small waves with their blend of punk and rap, and Tuesday night they welcomed London with open arms.

With each song under 3 minutes, BILK sped through their set like a boxer ploughing through the rounds. Full of rowdy attitude, frontman Sol Abraham raps about the life of an ordinary working-class lad for the full set, seemingly without stopping to take a breath.

And although they’re at risk of every song sounding the same, the loving crowd didn’t seem to mind, singing along to songs about unemployment and drugs.

BILK‘s biggest single to date, ‘CM2, with its simplistically infectious chorus is undoubtedly still stuck in everyone’s head.

BILK might not be headed for stardom or for the charts, but missing them might well be a mistake.
