Matt McManamon from The Dead 60’s launches solo career with ‘Jumpin’ The Gun’

Matt McManamon who you will know from Ska-Revivalist band The Dead 60’s has launched his solo career with the brilliant ‘Jumpin’ The Gun’.
The new track is the first taster from McManamon’s debut album which he has revealed to be titled ‘Scally Folk’, the album has no official release date yet but scheduled for later this year.
Marking a distinct change in direction from the high energy ska-punk frisson of the band that broke his name, ‘Jumpin’ the Gun’ finds McManamon making his first steps on an intrepid new path. Throwing the gauntlet down to the naysayers and doubters who would have it otherwise, McManamon says:
“‘Jumpin’ The Gun” is a song for all ‘the haters’ in life. The song is primarily about experiencing negative people & negative thoughts, and responding to them by doing something positive. Some years ago when I took a hiatus from doing music, I’d find certain opinionated people, basically wrote me off, believing I was finished and would never do anything in music again. I always knew I would, I was just taking stock and biding my time and making sure I didn’t ‘jump the gun’, so the song draws inspiration from turning other people’s negativity into a positive. For me it has a real “we will win” attitude about it, not too dissimilar to the kids book The Tortoise and the Hare.”
With touches of power-pop, psychedelia and folk all evidenced in this comeback single, it lays out a nuanced palette of sounds that all play their part in his upcoming album, ‘Scally Folk’. Hued with that same unmistakable Merseyside accent that fired through the lyrics of ‘Riot Radio’ back in 2005, McManamon uncovers a new dimension to his voice with material refracted through the places that have shaped him, most notably Liverpool and his current home in Wexford, Ireland.
Perhaps best described by the album’s title itself, ‘Scally Folk’ will see the artist exploring the sounds of his roots with new purpose and in doing so finding a closer kinship with the songwriting canons of Lee Mavers, Julian Cope or even Mike Scott. The album was produced in Ireland by Mick Cronin.
Matt McManamon is the former vocalist and songwriter of The Dead 60s. Releasing their s/t debut in 2005, the band scored 5 UK top 40 hits and surpassed over 100k sales in the UK alone. During his tenure as frontman, McManamon toured with the likes of Morrissey, Kasabian, and Deltasonic label mates The Coral, appearing on stages from Glastonbury to Top of the Pops. Prior to launching his solo career, Matt also toured with The Specials as their live guitarist.
