Single Review: Jonny Blade – Lad Leathered
LAD LEATHERED
Written just two days after the chaos of Leeds Festival 2024, Jonny Blade’s latest single ‘Lad Leathered‘ is a raw, relatable, and raucous ode to the post-festival comedown.
Penned during the healing period that inevitably follows a three-day binge of music and mayhem, this track captures the essence of festival culture, complete with real people, real events and real hangovers.
Delivered with tongue firmly in cheek, ‘Lad Leathered‘ is no glorification of booze-fuelled excess, but rather a story of self-discovery through self-destruction. It’s the sound of someone pushing themselves to the edge and coming back with a cracking tune and a sore head. The lyric “he’s all alone and his head’s reyt sore” might’ve taken a month for Jonny to place that it’s a nod to The Rosadocs’ ‘No.54‘ and not the Reytons as he first thought, but the honesty behind it hits home regardless.
With its danceable energy and light-hearted tone, the track is bound to strike a chord with anyone who’s ever found themselves surrounded by strangers-turned-mates at 3am, pint in hand and wondering where their tent went. It’s a festival anthem for the leathered lad in all of us, messy, memorable and full of heart.
Jonny Blade nails the feeling of the field, the folly, and the fallout. Expect this one to pop up on plenty of playlists this festival season.
