Single Review: Revivalry – Kick Off
MODERN NOSTALGIA
Revivalry don’t walk onto the pitch, they tear straight through it. On ‘Kick Off‘, the Cleethorpes trio channel every bit of untamed, terrace-charged euphoria into three minutes of arms-aloft alt-rock that feels like diving headfirst into the weekend.
It’s the sound of lives lived loud, with squalling guitars, shout-along lyrics and the kind of clattering momentum that feels like it’s always seconds from boiling over. In other words, it’s Revivalry doing what they do best.
Following March’s angst-ridden ‘Lost‘, this latest single barrels in with a grittier grin, less anxious, and more anthemic. ‘Kick Off‘ is about the build-up: the beers, the chants, the rituals, the mates, and that sacred matchday buzz. “Almost tribal,” says frontman Josh Corfield and you can hear it. There’s a fire in this one, the kind that ignites crowds and sparks flare-light memories in sweaty gig pits.
Still riding the high of their live reputation built long before most bands even find their feet, Revivalry are shaping up to be summer staples, with ‘Kick Off‘ leading the charge for their debut EP ‘Modern Nostalgia’ which is landing 30th May. It’s clear their influences run the gamut: the muscle of Rage, the drama of BMTH, the swagger of Arctic Monkeys but what makes Revivalry tick is how much it feels. Every note, every line, aimed squarely at the hearts of anyone who’s ever clung to youth like a badge of honour.
And for the collectors? A sea-blue 12” vinyl edition of Modern Nostalgia lands 20th June, ready to soundtrack a summer of chaos and catharsis.
