Single Review: The K’s – The Bends (Here We Go Again)
PRETTY ON THE INTERNET
The K’s are back with a powerful new single, ‘The Bends (Here We Go Again)‘, ahead of their highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Pretty On The Internet’.
Pretty On The Internet is released 27th June, Pre-Order bundles are available here: https://theks.band/shop/
After exploring a more piano and strings-driven sound on their previous release, ‘Helen, Oh I‘, the band has returned to their signature guitar-driven indie style. ‘The Bends‘ hits hard right from the start with infectious melodic hooks and frontman Jamie Boyle’s unmistakable vocals.
The track stands out not only for its energetic musicality but also for its deeply personal lyricism. Jamie’s songwriting has always been autobiographical, reflecting his own experiences. In ‘The Bends‘, he draws on a particularly difficult period in his youth, spending much of his adolescence in hospitals undergoing a series of tests and surgeries. As he recalls, the pain was often so intense that he was left feeling disoriented and detached, a feeling mirrored in the track’s lyrics. The song captures that overwhelming sensation, while also exploring the emotional impact of a certain person who can evoke that same disorienting feeling.
Musically, ‘The Bends‘ is a seamless blend of upbeat energy and sincere lyricism, delivering the type of memorable hooks The K’s are known for. But it’s not just the music that makes this track stand out, the accompanying video brings out a whole new side of the band.
Directed by longtime collaborator Geoff Owens, the video explores the band’s eccentricities with a touch of surrealism. Drawing inspiration from classic films like A Clockwork Orange and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the video captures a theatrical, rebellious spirit that complements the song’s tone. With a hint of absurdity and controlled madness, the visual adds another layer to the band’s ever-evolving creative journey.
‘The Bends (Here We Go Again)‘ is a striking reminder of The K’s ability to merge powerful musicality with raw, honest emotion, while continuing to surprise fans with their dynamic, evolving style.
