Single Review: The Spitfires – Where Did We Go Wrong?

MKII

Three years after their split, The Spitfires are back with something to prove and ‘Where Did We Go Wrong?‘ makes their case loud and clear. Taken from their upcoming sixth album ‘MKII’, the single is a confident, emotionally-charged return that blends the band’s signature mod energy with a matured, introspective edge.

Led by Billy Sullivan’s unmistakable vocal delivery, the track strikes a balance between regret and resilience. Lyrically, it explores the bitter breakdown of a once-bright relationship but there’s no self-pity here, instead, it’s delivered with clarity and emotional punch. ‘Where did we go wrong?‘ becomes less a question and more a mantra, repeated like the aftermath of a fight you can’t stop replaying in your head.

Musically, it’s tight, melodic and undeniably catchy. Punchy guitars, sharp rhythm work and a big singalong chorus make it classic Spitfires but there’s a renewed polish to the production that hints at a band growing into a new skin. It’s a song built for both indie disco dancefloors and solitary late-night listens.

If ‘Better The Devil You Know‘ was the band’s defiant re-entry, ‘Where Did We Go Wrong?‘ is the emotional anchor, a track that shows they’re not just back, they’ve evolved. This is The Spitfires with fresh wind in their sails and something real to say.

Fresh from a storming run of European and UK dates culminating in a euphoric, sold-out homecoming celebration at London’s iconic KOKO  The Spitfires are wasting no time in keeping the momentum alive. Reinvigorated and reconnecting with fans across borders, the band has been doing what they do best, delivering electrifying live performances packed with heart, grit and passion.
