The Sunshine Underground return for one off Leeds gig
Raise The Alarm
Leeds legends The Sunshine Underground have just dropped the announcement fans have been waiting years for! A full band reunion to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough debut album, ‘Raise the Alarm‘.
The one-off show will take place on Saturday 25 July 2026, set against the atmospheric backdrop of Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds. It marks the group’s first live performance in ten years, and promises to be a true celebration of one of the most important records to emerge from the mid-2000s indie-dance explosion.
Formed in Leeds in the early 2000s, The Sunshine Underground carved out a reputation for their electrifying live shows and genre-bending sound, blending indie guitars with dancefloor energy. Their debut album ‘Raise the Alarm‘ became an underground classic, with tracks like ‘Put You in Your Place‘, ‘Commercial Breakdown‘ and ‘Borders‘ still lighting up indie disco nights across the UK.
This special anniversary show will see the band revisit the album in full, alongside a set packed with fan favourites from across their career.
And if that wasn’t enough, the line-up is stacked with era-defining acts who shared festival stages and dancefloors with The Sunshine Underground during their heyday: White Lies, Hard-Fi, The Futureheads, The Twang, and The Whip will all be joining the celebrations. It’s a bill that reads like the soundtrack to a whole generation of indie kids.
Speaking about their long-awaited reunion, the band said:
“We’ve had countless people asking us if we’d ever get back together and play these songs again. With 20 years of Raise the Alarm, it felt like the perfect time. We can’t wait to see everyone at Kirkstall Abbey, this one’s going to be unforgettable.”
For fans who lived through the glory days of the indie-dance boom, and for those who’ve discovered ‘Raise the Alarm‘ since, this promises to be a night packed with nostalgia, energy and the sound of a band whose music still feels every bit as vital two decades on.
