Preview: Skylights new single ‘Enemies’ receives Radio X premiere

Enemies

‘A nostalgic dream with a rock undertone’

Skylights consist of Rob Scarisbrick (lead vocalist), Turnbull Smith (guitarist) Johnny Scarisbrick (bassist) Myles Soley (drummer)

Skylights are down to earth guys from York, selling out venues in Leeds and they also sold out their allocation when they supported cult favourites Twisted Wheel.

The band have bagged future gigs supporting fellow York indie band Shed Seven, at their huge summer gig at Piece Hall
in Halifax alongside The Pigeon Detectives and The Wedding Present.

Described as infusing Britpop and post-punk influences such as Oasis, Courteeners and The
Verve. These guys have been performing together for over 10 years and are childhood friends
as well as two brothers. Their roots are firmly in the nineties indie scene however there is a rock
edge to them and a bit like fellow Leeds band The Music.
They also have the full support from Leeds United who have backed the band by choosing skylights‘ song ‘YRA’ as their recent year’s anniversary video.

The intro to ‘Enemies’ has a guitar, then slow drumming before hitting into the vocals, this certainly
gives that rock edge and this instantly made me think of The Music and many of Red Hot Chilli
Peppers drum entry to their tracks. Accompanied with a bass groove that takes you right back to a 1990’s
school field. Lyrics such as ‘Dream those dreams they never go’ drag you back to the present with
a warm feel of nostalgia but with a rockier edge provided by Soley on the drums.

Frontman Rob
Scarisbrick spoke of ‘Enemies’ Meaning,

It’s like sticking the finger to doubters and naysayers. Dream your dreams and dont let anybody
stop you.

‘Enemies’ is released 24th Jan.

These guys prove that hard work pays off and this track definitely shows their capabilities, their passion and the love they have for music. Add these aspects to likeability and staying power these guys are definitely making dents in the Leeds music scene and building a very loyal fanbase along the way.
