The Sherlocks to headline the new Docks Beers venue in Grimsby

Docks Academy

Grimsby’s favourite boozer Docks Beers is to open a new venue above the already legendary brewery and taproom in April.

The 300 capacity venue is named Docks Academy and the venue which is situated in a former church will be christened by Bolton upon Dearne lads The Sherlocks on Friday 3rd April.

The Sherlocks already have deep ties with Docks Beers after the band performed a memorable acoustic set in August 2019. The Sherlocks asked fans on social media to vote for a Town/City which you would be less likely to catch them in, Grimsby topped the poll and The Sherlocks stayed true to their word by performing an extra special acoustic gig to just 100 people at Docks Beers on King Edward Street.

With their 2017 debut album ‘Live For The Moment’ Sheffield quartet The Sherlocks established themselves as key contenders in a new wave of British bands keeping alt-rock and indie vital for a new generation of fans. The album fired into the charts at #6 as the band inspired devotion wherever they went, from shows with Liam Gallagher, an international array of festival dates to rapturously received shows in Japan.

Last year The Sherlocks released the follow-up album “Under Your Sky’. The album was a bit more mature than the debut and largely  born from experiences, often specific to Kiaran in circumstance but largely universal in emotion. ‘Under Your Sky’ gave The Sherlocks another top #20 album and established the band as a real force.

The Sherlocks have played some huge gigs with Liam Gallagher, The Libertines and most memorable for the lads was a massive hometown show with Kings of Leon at Sheffield Arena. To see The Sherlocks play a capacity of just 300 is a very rare experience now and this will make Docks Academy one of, if not the highlight of the tour.

Band member Kiaran commented,

We had a great gig at Docks Beers last year and we loved being in Grimsby.  The directors Will (Douglas) and Shaz (Shadan) told us they planned to open a music venue on the first floor above the brewery and we thought it would be brilliant to come back and christen it.  We can’t wait to be the first headliners to play the Docks Academy.

On the band’s new new album, ‘Under Your Sky’, Kiaran continued,

The first album was us four in a room.  We wanted to make it really raw like the Arctic Monkeys’ first album or Kings Of Leon’s. We wanted to capture the live sound and polish it up a bit. With this one we’ve taken it a step further and made it slightly smoother and put more keyboards in. Rather than having the guitars thrashing all the time we’ve tried being a bit sweeter with it. It sounds more contemporary, and we’re looking forward to playing tracks from it in the Docks Academy.

Docks Academy’s Kay Chapman said,

The Sherlocks visit to Docks Beers in August was a legendary night. Docks stayed in regular contact with the lads on Twitter and they said they were keen to come back for a proper gig.  We are proud to announce they will be performing again on April 3rd, but this time with a full PA. They will be the first headline music act to perform in the new venue and it’s going to be a night to remember. This is a massive scoop for Docks Academy and Grimsby because these lads are destined for stadiums with their anthemic music.  Their 2020 tour already includes dates at the O2 Academies in Leeds and Sheffield and Rock City in Nottingham. Grimsby is now on that list too! It’s a big marker in the sand which puts the Docks Academy and this town firmly on the map for established touring bands.

The Sherlocks appear at Docks Academy on Friday 3rd April and are the first of a trio of gigs in April, already announced are Muddy Waters JR who will perform on Saturday 11th April and Oh My God! It’s The Church on Saturday 25th April.

Tickets go on sale for The Sherlocks on Sunday 19th January at 10am on the Docks Academy website https://www.docksacademy.com.
