Wigan indie-pop risers The Lilacs are charging into 2024 with the kind of youthful energy that defines their sound. Their latest single, ‘You’re Not That Daft’, perfectly captures their signature mix of bright, infectious melodies and anthemic storytelling. With its insistent rhythms and a chorus that sticks after just one listen, the track is a celebration of late-night misadventures and bittersweet nostalgia.
Ollie Anglesea’s commanding vocals bring to life a series of vivid snapshots: the tall tales spun on big nights out, the chaotic charm of Wigan’s old Indiependence club, and the fleeting friendships formed in the glow of cheap drinks and loud music. Produced by Joe Cross (Courteneers, The Slow Readers Club), the song finds its place alongside previous singles ‘Where’ve You Been Hiding’ and ‘Calling It A Night’, all leading up to their debut EP, ‘The 395 (To Forever)’, out March 21st via Scruff of the Neck.
Ollie says,
“This is definitely one of the more ‘fun’ tracks on the record, and was the quickest song that came together in the studio. Similar to ‘Calling it a Night’ and ‘One More for the Road’, this song explores the times of our misspent youth and university days — late-night drinking, reckless adventures, and the blurry yet unforgettable moments that shaped us, even as we stumbled our way through it all.”
For fans of punchy, heartfelt indie anthems, ‘You’re Not That Daft’ is a must-listen. It’s a reminder of youthful recklessness and the memories that stick with you long after the hangovers fade. If this is just the start of 2025 for The Lilacs, their upcoming tour and festival run could cement them as one of the UK’s most exciting rising bands.
The Lilacs have already seen strong demand for both their headline and in-store tours – limited tickets for some shows remain available HERE.
