Troubled Waters

Mike Skinner has announced a new album by The Streets, ‘The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light’ is due out October 20th.

Pre-order here: https://shop.thestreets.co.uk/gb/?ref=https%3A%2F%2Fstreets.lnk.to%2F&fbclid=IwAR0rKa_6aKuAHqcCJd2WVH_IaJBgynKXJQ2nThJ7CyCn7L07zt7zIZaEDU4

The album comes paired with a feature length film of the same name, described as a “tripped out noir murder mystery based in Londons’ clubland.” Lead single ‘Troubled Waters’ is a score to the album’s narrative throughline of rave and redemption, drawing from Skinner’s decade long exploration of club culture. With a Euro-trance backing, the probing ‘Troubled Waters’ transitions into four-to-floor propulsion, all the while Skinner’s trademark confessional tone brings the number back to gritty, earthy planes.

‘The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light’ was masterminded by Skinner, and features vocal contributions from longtime collaborators Kevin Mark Trail and Robert Harvey, as well as a track featuring Teef.

Of the album and accompanying film, Mike Skinner says:

It has been seven long years working on this film and album. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and after dipping my toe in with some shorts and music videos, I felt I was ready. I tried to go the traditional route for a bit, but it’s always served me better to follow my instincts and just get on with it myself, so I’ve directed it, acted in it, edited, sound mixed, funded, produced it all as well as written it. The album doesn’t exist without it. Ultimately it’s all the fruits of a decade on the DJ circuit, watching people in clubs and back rooms, testing out beats and basslines to see what connected – and putting it all together into ‘The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light‘…

Coinciding with the album and film release, Skinner will embark on a headline UK tour beginning on the 26th of October until its conclusion at Alexandra Palace on November 16th.
