Single Review: Shines – Radio On
Radio On
Shines are taking it to the next level with ‘Radio On‘. Already a live favourite after several airings late 24 / early 25, this tune is a sonic stamp on a scene that the band are at the spearhead of.
This scene is now tuned subtly from Post Punk into a new wave of Urban Indie Pop that is getting attention from outlets including Radio X.
‘Radio On‘ has its parallels yes but there is a unique mix here driven by the best rhythm ignition from the Poole / Day engine yet that gives the Cross / Dutton combination a perfect canvas to work with both musically and lyrically – be it in the studio or for the live gigs.
The real gem in this tune is the lyrics that Ritchie Dutton has put together, looking back at a relationship thinking about what might have been – it could also be an enigmatic question asking why certain songs and bands make it – I can’t solve that puzzle – for me it’s simple Shines have made it – just listen, understand and interpret for yourselves with the video which aired on 26th March, I’m sure it will give some further clues.
With a packed schedule for 2025 Shines will be airing more songs following up the superb debut album released almost a year ago – ones to definitely watch out for in the coming months.
